SafePlace is a joint program of work by Forum of Civic Initiatives (FIQ) and Saferworld which supports the development of an effective, accountable and conflict-sensitive security sector in Kosovo. Using a combination of research, advocacy, community work and capacity building, the project seeks to address a number of key security and justice sector development questions that Kosovo faces at this time. SafePlace is intended as a contribution to ongoing security sector development work in Kosovo with a strong focus on generating informed and inclusive public debate about proposed changes to security provision in Kosovo, as a means to better policy-making and greater democratic accountability. Themes currently being explored within SafePlace include the following:

  • Developing Capacity among governmental and non-governmental actors
  • Small Arms Control
  • Developing Approaches to Community Safety
  • Promoting Conflict Sensitivity within the security sector

Further information on specific SafePlace activities can be found on the activities pages, while the Resource Center pages contain supplementary material and links relating to peace and conflict, security sector development and arms control.
